What could be better than concocting your own DIY Halloween slime with just a few ingredients? As well as being gloopy and a fun sensory experience, playing with slime has the added bonus of supporting fine motor development and strengthening small muscles in little hands!
In this blog, we will share two tried and tested, spooky slime recipes to keep your little ones entertained. We guarantee your little ones will be satisfied with their slimy concoctions. Simply follow our easy step-by-step crafts guide below or watch our video tutorial to make magic slime in minutes and get creative with the children this Halloween.
Option 1: Taste Safe Slime
You will need:
- Marshmallows
- Vegetable Oil
- Food colouring
- Cornflour
To make your slime:
- Start by adding a few marshmallows to a microwave-safe bowl and popping them in the microwave for 30 seconds max. The marshmallows should have doubled in size.
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave (it might be hot!). Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to your marshmallows and stir.
- Once you have stirred the oil in you can add a food colouring of your choice - we went for green - and stir once again.
- Next, you will need to slowly add teaspoons of cornflour and mix simultaneously until the mixture becomes less sticky to the touch
- Once your mixture has stopped sticking to the bowl and spoon it should be ready to play with!
Option 2: Jelly Slime Oobleck
You will need:
- Cornflour
- Jelly Crystals
- Water
- Food colouring (optional)
To make your slime:
- Measure 1 cup of cornflour into a bowl and add 1 cup of jell crystals (we used Raspberry Jelly Crystals for a red colour)
- Fold in 1/2 cup of water and stir thoroughly to mix everything together.
- Slowly knead the mixture together until it forms an oozy slimy consistency. If the mixture is too dry add more water if needed to create a taste-safe slime that children will love to pull, squish and twist!
Top Tips for Making DIY Halloween Slime:
- Make clean-up easier by playing on a smooth table, wipeable placemat or plastic tablecloth.
- To use your slime again, store it in an airtight container.
- Remember, the more you knead and play with your slime, the less sticky it will become!
- Why not try using different colours and make lots of different coloured slime!
