Bring some extra amazement to Bonfire Night this year with this "Firework in a jar" science experiment. Made using basic kitchen ingredients, these water fireworks are sure to bring an explosion - of colour! A great way for children to explore a bit of science and colour whilst celebrating Bonfire Night.

You will need:

To make your Water Fireworks:

  1. Start by filling a clear jar or jug with water
  2. Then in separate cups combine a glug of oil with a few drops of each food colouring you wish to use
  3. Mix your oil mixtures together
  4. Then pour your oil and colouring mixtures into your jar of water
  5. The mixture will stay on the surface at first but then watch as the oil disperses through the water creating what looks like fireworks!
