Manipulatives and Malleable Materials

Malleable play refers to children using materials which can easily be manipulated such as dough or playfoam to create shapes and patterns. Playing with such materials is a great way for children to build up strength in their small muscles and hands which supports fine motor development.

Similarly, manipulative play is important for fine motor development as it teaches children how to use their hands, learning to grasp and manipulate objects accordingly.
